Bootle Masterplan

The overarching theme of this project was rethinking some of the overlooked areas of the city and explore what could be fruitfully achieved in a period of economic downturn.

The project looked at creating a sustainable future in design and growth specific to an area within Liverpool.  The final outcome used the Leeds/Liverpool canal as a source to transport the waste produced by houses in Bootle. Making use of this waste will in turn produce greener energy as part of a cogent urban regeneration proposal.

The Nanus

The design philosophy for my building was incorporating nature and architecture.

Nanonephrology and the amount needed to make this building economically viable was taken into consideration. The first brief explored was that to explore into depth Nanotechnology.

The second idea was then the exploration of Nanotextiles and how new fabrics could be produced, be stain free and produce eco-friendly clothes.

Finally the possibility of a Nanonephrology research laboratories and Therapy/Relaxation Centre for the kidney patients was considered.

The link to the Royal Infirmary made it ideal to base the research laboratories and Therapy building.

Therefore when exploring what equipment was needed and space required to research. There is a communal winter garden and courtyard inspired from Zen Gardens and Chinese Medicine.

In summary, the Nanus consists of four blocks, two of which were important with the research laboratories and the Relax/Therapy centre for kidney patients.
